Open City Debate – VROM presents: Design and Politics #1
This debate deals with the confrontation between designer and administrator. Felix Rottenberg will confront Henk Ovink (VROM), Wouter Vanstiphout (Crimson Architectural Historians), Adri Duivesteijn (Alderman for the City of Almere) and Reinier de Graaff (OMA/AMO). A confrontation with current and future political and societal issues. We find these issues in the city, where confrontation is at its maximum: the city politicizes the environmental planning.
The Ministry of VROM will present the book Design and Politics #1. By appointing a Design & Politics professor at the Technical University of Delft, the Ministry is starting an education, research and practical program aimed at strengthening the interplay between design and politics. This book forms the inspiration and agenda for action for this.
This debate is part of the Open City Event Program of the 4th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam and is being organized by VROM, tha IABR , and the NAI.
