Kick off cross-media project VPRO and 4th IABR
On 3 September, the Dutch broadcaster VPRO will host a festival-evening in Amsterdam to launch Urban Century (Eeuw van de Stad), a cross-media project that begins on 13 September. Urban Century will present radio, TV, and online programs devoted to life in the city.
The kick-off evening—Urban Century LIVE (Eeuw van de Stad LIVE)—features a diverse line-up of speakers including, among others, Adriaan Geuze (West 8 Landscape Architects and curator of the 2nd IABR), Winy Maas (MVRDV), and Michelle Provoost and Wouter Vanstiphout (Crimson Architectural Historians and curators of the sub-theme “Maakbaarheid” for the 4th IABR). The evening will consist of exclusive previews, debates, and the opportunity to share visions on the themes of urbanism and social cohesion in the city.
The IABR and the VPRO are currently compiling a digital archive—“Open City”—to be presented at the VPRO Pavilion, located in the 4th IABR’s main exhibition venue, the Netherlands Architecture Institute. Throughout the Biennale, this open-source archive will make hundreds of radio and TV programs available to visitors. Programs can be watched or listed to in the NAi, or, in many cases, downloaded free of charge.
