Build in the Grasslands or Densify?
A Debate with Maarten van Poelgeest at Free State Amsterdam
Mid October 2009, the alderman for Amsterdam spatial planning, Maarten van Poelgeest, presented the development scenario 2040 Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Amsterdam should become stronger, greener and more accessible. This means more housing and employment opportunities in the city, better public transportation and investments in parks and landscaping. At the same time, the market calls for more easy building locations. These are not found in the city but are found in the grasslands: family houses with a backyard garden and space for a car in front. Do we invest in difficult urban building locations or do we choose for ease and money?
Maarten van Poelgeest will debate with Walter de Boer, CEO of Bouwfonds Property Development. The debate will be led by Maud van der Wiel.
The evening program runs from 8 to 10 pm.
Admission is free.
