Opening T-Visionarium OPEN CITY
Unique 360º 3D installation on show one time only in the Netherlands
Experience the Urban Century in three dimensions from 5 to 22 November
On Wednesday 4 November T_Visionarium OPEN CITY will enjoy its world premiere in the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam. T_Visionarium OPEN CITY is an installation about a century of urbanisation in which documentaries, reports, and interviews are presented in innovative fashion and in three dimensions. The 360º installation, 3 metres tall and 10 metres wide, offers visitors a spectacular, new film experience and the chance to browse by themselves through the material and remix it. T_Visionarium Open City is on show for one time only in the Netherlands from 5 to 22 November.
T_Visionarium is an innovative interface developed by iCinema Research Centre researchers at the University of New South Wales, Australia: Neil Brown, Dennis del Favero, Matthew McGinity, Jeffrey Shaw, along with Peter Weibel of the ZKM Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Shaw , co-director of the iCinema Centre and Dean of the School of Creative Media, City University Hong Kong, is an artist
internationally renowned as a pioneer in the field of new media. Del Favero, Director of the iCinema Centre is internationally recognised for his photography, video and new media.
To date, T_Visionarium has only been seen in Spain and France with Australian TV footage as ‘content’. The T_Visionarium OPEN CITY project is a next step in the development of this interface, in close collaboration with the research centre iCinema, through the thematic interpretation of the audio-visual database centred on the theme of ‘city’ and through the addition of an extensive subject index.
T_Visionarium OPEN CITY is an initiative within the framework of the VPRO series Urban Century in collaboration with the 4th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR), Open City: Designing Coexistence, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, Images for the Future, and the iCinema Research Centre. The contents include images from the rich archives of the VPRO and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, The
One Minutes Foundation, and Holland Doc 24.
