documentary "Cities of Preferences"
By Mathan Ratinam, Toni Schade and Andrea Zalewski, Moving Image Lab at Columbia (MILC)
Cities of Preferences is a short documentary about the spatial organization of communities within the modern city by presenting economist and Nobel Laureate Thomas Schelling's model that describes how neighborhoods become segregated. This documentary illustrates some of the culturally rich enclaves found across the boroughs of New York City to reflect upon the positive and negative aspects of segregation and congregation and how designers might engage with this phenomenon.
